Some things to LOVE about Colorado Ballet!
- Artistic Director: Gil Boggs, former principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre. He has worked with and studied under some of ballet's greatest, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Twyla Tharp, Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Paul Taylor. During his tenure, Colorado Ballet has added to its expansive repertoire and has received some of the best critical reviews in its history. I have heard good things and am excited to get to know and work with Gil. See the full artistic staff HERE.
- Colorado Ballet's 31 professional Company dancers and 21 Studio Company dancers present more than 50 classical and contemporary ballet performances every year. See the 2019-2020 season.
- The dancers come from all over the world, including Japan, Russia, Cuba, Canada, France, Ireland, Brazil, Italy, Ecuador, Mexico and the United States.
- Colorado Ballet purchased a building anchoring the north end of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe in 2013. The Company renovated the space and moved into its new home in August 2014. The 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art rehearsal and training facility now houses the Company and Studio Company dancers plus 1,500 Academy students. The Armstrong Center for Dance is located in a thriving cultural neighborhood close to Downtown Denver.
- The last four seasons have been the most successful in Colorado Ballet’s history, breaking both revenue and attendance records. During the 2016-2017 season, Colorado Ballet’s ticketing revenue exceeded more than $4 million for the first time and more than 87,000 people watched Colorado Ballet’s productions. Fiscal year 2018 most successful year on record. Things are going the right direction with a BRIGHT FUTURE!
- In December 2016, Colorado Ballet's The Nutcracker was named the best-loved Nutcracker in the 10th Annual Goldstar National Nutcracker Award contest, winning this coveted honor in a field that included more than 80 other productions throughout the U.S.
- 27 Nutcracker shows with live music performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. I absolutely LOVE Nutcracker Season and their last season SOLD OUT!
- DRACULA ! Okay, not technically scheduled this season but what's not to like here? Every company should do Dracula, at least every other year.
- The Wizard of Oz! Premiered early 2019 and SOLD OUT! Choreography by Septime Webre and music by Matthew Pierce, performed live by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, combined with new sets, costumes, projections and special effects. I cannot wait!
- Their website is so well done! They even have tips for attending your first ballet and you can see they do a lot of community outreach.
